Fellow Locks members, I have copied this post and put it here so that you can access it in two different places. Please enjoy the work of our friend, Adoven!
Hello, Adoven here, helping with Original Character Creation (OCC for short) and any other roleplaying needs!
I was asked by other members of this board to post up something to help newcomers to role-playing (RP) on these here threads. Before I do though, there are a couple of key points and words of advice I can give just through personal experience (you all can heed or disregard this, but these are more personal observations I believe are necessary to the whole process in general, so bear with me! )
Vocabulary:
OCC (or OC): Original Character Concept or Original Character. While it can be fun to play your favorite hero or character from other sources of media, try to refrain from cookie-cutter builds if making something original. Even if you do select to go a very well-known archetype, try putting your personal touch or spin on it!
Roleplay (RP): To immerse oneself into a character role, to act a role. Even if your character's personality is very similar to vastly different to your own, try what you want to do, and what you think works best for you. It can be rewarding and interesting to see what your character might do and how the other OCCs around them might act!
(Please read forum rules for more limitations if you have a question)
Now onto the main reason for this thread! :
This is a short basic biography of what your OCC can use, using the "Game of Twenty-One Questions" adapted from the Legend of the Five Rings Role-Playing Game. You can choose to give a detailed entry like a paragraph or so (if you are so inclined). This tool better helps you understand your character's psychology and how they function in addition to those people reading it.
Character’s Name:
1. What race does your character belong to?
2. How would you describe your character?
3. Is your character a thinker or a fighter?
4. What about your character's family? What were they like?
5. What is your character's main motivation?
6. Who is the one person your character trusts most?
7. What is your character's greatest strength? Greatest weakness?
8. What does your character think of honor?
9. What is your character's own opinion of his race/tribe?
10. Does your character have any prejudices?
11. Was your character married?
12. To whom does your character owe the most loyalty?
13. What are your character's favorite (and least favorite) things?
14. Does your character have any recurring mannerisms?
15. What about your character's psychology?
16. How would your character handle an insubordinate servant?
17. How would your character's parents describe him?
18. What are your character's highest ambitions?
19. How religious is your character?
20. Does your character support or subvert authority?
21. If you could, what advice would you give your character?
Additional Trivia:
Current and Past Affiliations:
Favored Fighting Method/Loadout (optional):
I hope this helps our newer members here! Don't be afraid to be as elaborate as possible, give as many details, because we encourage immersion!
A few useful tips to keep in mind is to develop your character thoughtfully and help them grow based on their past experiences and interactions with other characters on the forums (and at park days). They are only as real as you make them out to be, however legendary they become.
And who knows, your characters may turn out to be pretty awesome!
Play fair and play true,
Adoven Leoros Bloodwynd
